Placement examinations and InterviewSome institutes/programs conduct placement examinations and interview. The applicant shall be required to take placement examinations to determine the applicantís aptitude for graduate study. An interview may be required for further evaluation.
Testing RequirementsTOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores are required of all international students whose first language is not English, except those applicants who have graduated from an accredited university where English is the language of instruction. The university-wide minimum requirement is 61 for Internet, 173 for Computer, and 500 for paper. Information about this test, including the places and the dates of administration may be obtained by writing directly to TOEFL, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, USA or e-mail at www.ets.org/toefl. The applicant must request that a copy of his scores be sent to the Office of the University Registrar, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City 1101 Philippines. The U.P. Institution Code for TOEFL is 0978.

All required documents must be received by the Graduate Office by application deadline in order for the application to be considered complete. Please ensure that your application contains the following: 1. Application form 2. Official transcripts of undergraduate and graduate records Upload one copy of your scanned official transcript from each institution from which you have earned or will earn an undergraduate or graduate degree. Please see section below regarding applying online and transcript submission. 3. Copies of diplomas or certificates of graduation Upload one copy of your scanned diplomas or certificates of graduation from each institution from which you have earned or will earn an undergraduate or graduate degree. Please see section below regarding applying online and diplomas or certificates of graduation submission. 4. Copies of birth certificate and marriage certificate (for married female applicants) from the National Statistics Office (NSO) Upload one copy of your scanned birth certificate and marriage certificate from NSO. Please see section below regarding applying online and birth certificate and marriage certificate submission. 5. CS Recommendation forms We request that your two (2) referees complete the attached CS Recommendation form. 6. Copy of TOEFL Result Upload one copy of your scanned TOEFL Official Score Report for evaluation. Please see section below regarding applying online and TOEFL Official Score Report submission.
Uploading documentsWhile completing your online application and prior to submitting it, you will be required to upload one copy of your scanned official transcript from each institution from which you have earned or will earn an undergraduate or graduate degree. Please do not mail your official transcripts, diplomas or certificates of graduation, birth certificate and marriage certificate to us until you have received an offer of admission from the College of Science, UP Diliman. Please note that non-legible scans will not be accepted. Make sure your scanned documents are legible before uploading, as non-legible documents will result in processing delays. You may scan a copy of your official paper or electronic transcript, diplomas or certificates of graduation provided to you from your institutionís Registrar. DO NOT upload your institution's web-based academic record or a document stating it is not an official transcript. Make sure that all critical and identifying marks have been scanned and are legible. These include the institution's name, your name, the names of your courses and the grades you have received. It is important that you scan both the front and back of your transcript as we will need to review the information provided at the back of your transcript concerning credit hours, the institution's grading scale, etc. Please ensure that your file is in Word (.doc) or PDF format. Change of ProgramStudents who have been awarded one masterís/doctoral degree and wish to return to the College of Science in order to pursue a second masterís/doctoral degree must complete an online application for the second masters/doctoral degree. Students who want to pursue a different masterís/doctoral degree must complete an online application for the new masterís/doctoral degree and inform the former graduate program in writing that a degree in that program will no longer be pursued.
Deferral of Application/Admission to Future SemesterStudents who have applied for graduate admission and wish to defer the application to a future term must email the Graduate Office at firstname.lastname@example.org (indicating full name, degree program applied for, current application term and the term to which to defer the application for consideration). If the deferment is for an enrollment term over one calendar year from the initial term applied for, the applicant will be charged a new application fee. The Graduate Office will contact the applicant by email to arrange payment of this fee. Applicants who have received an acceptance and wish to defer their enrollment to a future term must send a deferment letter to the Graduate Office (indicating full name, degree program, current admission term, and the term to which deferred enrollment is requested). If the institute/program approves the deferment, the Graduate Office will notify the applicant. If the deferment is for an enrollment term over one calendar year from the initial term applied for, the student will be charged a new application fee. The Graduate Office will contact the applicant by email to arrange payment of this fee.
